Malia James

╳

Malia James, originally from Texas, spent most of her post-adolescent life living on the road while touring the world as a photographer. She moved to London in her twenties and quickly progressed to the bassist for acclaimed bands like Dum Dum Girls and Marnie Stern. Though playing music was a lifelong dream, ultimately she always knew directing was her true calling.

Malia transitioned into directing music videos and has become a top choice amongst artists, leading Malia to direct music videos for Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Interpol, Green Day, Halsey, MØ, Troye Sivan, Dev Hynes, and Rita Ora among many others. Malia’s work is marked by authentic emotions, vivid lighting, bold colors, and compelling compositions. Her success extends to a diverse range of commercial clients including Captain Morgan, Google, Adidas, Head & Shoulders, Wrangler, Bose, and many more. Her directing style combines a relaxed demeanor with high attention to detail, creating a creative and energized atmosphere on set.

She has won Clio and Webby Awards, been nominated for Video of the Year at Shots, Best Rock Video at the MTV MUSIC AWARDS, Best Music Video at the Brit awards and Best Special Project at the UKMVA, received a Vimeo Staff Pick, and screened at SXSW. Her photo book, Girl in a Girl Band, is out and available on Amazon and we love it;)
